Understand and be able to apply the DMAIC process improvement methodology to a business environment by completing a lean six sigma green belt project within your own area of control and influence.

Define and set up the structures to initiate and manage your project using tools including chartering and business metrics, stakeholder Management, SIPOC mapping, VOC & VOP.

Measure the current state process using techniques such as value stream mapping and data collection planning to formulate an fact based understanding of the process.

Analyse your finding to determine the underlying reasons for process waste and variation using a broad range of lean six sigma tools.

Improve the process by identifying counter-measures to target sustainable and measurable reductions in process waste and variation

Control and sustain the improvements by embedding the changes and further identifying further areas for continuous improvement.

The delivery of our Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training centres around the DMAIC Process, also known as the DMAIC Cycle or Model.

This model lies at the core of successful process improvement. Its steps are: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control.

Module 1: DMAIC Framework

  • This module provides you with an overview of the programme and certification process.
  • It also offers an introduction to concepts of lean and six sigma, business waste and variation, the DMAIC process improvement approach, and how to select a suitable green belt project.

Module 2: Define

We begin navigating the DMAIC cycle with the first step, Define.

This module is concerned with setting up a solid framework for identifying the problems within a process. Tools covered include:

  • Project Charter, Problem Statement
  • Metrics for improvement – Time, Quality and Financial
  • Leading and Managing the team
  • Stakeholder Management Planning
  • Voice of the Customer and Voice of the Process
  • SIPOC Maps

Module 3: Measure

Here, we begin to create an accurate fact-based picture of the current state of the process, using tools such as:

  • Current State Value Stream Map
  • Baseline process metrics
  • Waste forms
  • Value-add and non-value add activities
  • Data Collection Plan

Module 4: Analyse

Using the information and data gathered in the first two stages, we now analyse the facts to understand why a process may not be performing well.

Potential areas for improvement are start to emerge during this phase.

Tools used include:

  • Analyse value stream maps to highlight forms of waste and obstacles
  • Six Sigma data analysis and graphical methods including control charts, pareto analysis and histograms
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Team Creativity Techniques
  • X-Y, Cause -Effect Diagrams
  • Root Cause Analysis and 5 Whys
  • Prioritising solutions using Pick Charts

Module 5: Improve

The next stage is a natural progression to create and implement the best sustainable solutions for a better process.

Here, we use tools and techniques such as:

  • Process improvement planning, decision making and piloting
  • Team based Kaizen Events
  • 5S
  • Kanban visual systems
  • Error Proofing
  • Action Planning
  • Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED)
  • Construct Future State Value Stream Process Map

Module 6: Control

The final stage of the cycle is verification that the solutions implemented are effective and that measures have been put in place to ensure ongoing control of the process.

The control phase utilises many techniques, including:

  • Review, retrospect and document lessons Learned
  • Documenting Process Improvement Metrics – Time, Quality, Financial
  • Identify Future Opportunities for Improvement

  • Do I need experience to attend this course?

    No previous experience is needed – delegates on this course include those with some experience and those completely new to the concept of lean six sigma.

    This is a course for anyone who wants to learn about lean six sigma processes and achieve a recognised certification.

    The only requirement we have is that you are prepared to focus during the course and will devote the necessary time for study and assessment work in the 8 weeks following the training.

  • What certification will I receive?

    When you successfully complete this course and the project required for certification you will achieve a QQI Level 6 Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Special Purpose Award.

    The QQI code for this course is 6S22147 with 15 credits towards a qualifying major award on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

  • How do I achieve my certification?

    You must attend all 5 days of training and successfully complete the accompanying assessment work to achieve this certification.

    You have 8 weeks from the end of your training course to complete and submit your assessment work.

    We provide full guidance and briefing for your assessment work during the course. We also provide detailed course materials and an assessment brief for you to reference while completing your assessment work.
